Summer Time Summary

Summer was such a whirlwind of events and excitement I didn't have a moment to sit down and write.
Oregon Country Faire was the highlight of July, I met so many beautiful souls; gratitude to the word givers, young and old, who inspired so many poems. Very special love goes to Gaelin for his support on the accordion.

August is full of many wonderful memories spent in the side yard of the Hawthorne Hostel (http://www.portlandhostel.org/) at their lovely Wednesday evening open mic which is going on until the end of September so come on by if you can!

Last Sunday I attended the Portland Poetry Slam at Backspace Coffeehouse, it was a full house and a full line up of amazing poets!

I was recently gifted the lasted edition of Poets & Writers, currently submitting as much as I can afford.

As always fellow poets and writers,
WRITE ON!

ACCEPTANCE LETTER!

I've been pining over the mail box for the past couple weeks waiting to get a response to a submission inquiry I sent out in March and had just about given up hope when I found in my email

AN ACCEPTANCE LETTER!

silly me for thinking that a Portland based organization would be anything less than eco-friendly by sending digital mail rather than physical mail.

The women's literary journal VoiceCatcher (www.voicecatcher.org) has accepted my poem "I did not keep it a secret, I just didn't tell you" for their 2010 edition!

I'm blown away by the sheer honor of this acceptance and though faith in my art has never wavered I have not allowed myself the illusion that anything I create might be considered acceptable art by anyone but myself.

So thank you to anyone who has ever listened to my poetry (I know there's a lot of you), and everyone over the years who has encouraged me to continue to share and to get myself out there, I really could not have gotten this far without you.

On another note I have recently completed a compilation project and now, after countless hours of editing and frustrating days of formatting, have a BOOK!
It is currently being reviewed by Publication Studio (www.publicationstudio.biz)

My current project is to get a few copies printed and bound for pre-publication release, I should have the rough-cut copies available at the reading at the St. John Booksellers-details below:

Saturday, June 26th
St. John's Booksellers
8622 North Lombard Street
Portland, OR 97203
12-1:30pm
Free

Everything is so exciting these days. Thank you again for your support and hope to be sharing words with you soon!

Love always,
Celestial Concubine

A poem of encouragement out of the ethers of delerium

a few weeks ago I was afflicted with a strong fever. I do not remember much of what happened during the three days that I was bed ridden but apparently at some point I sat down and wrote poetry. The following is one I would like to share with you.

When it takes all you've got
to get up in the morning
give it
all you've got

if it takes swallowing your pride
to let someone know their glory
swallow your pride

when it is difficult to imagine
things ever changing
imagine anyway

if it takes your very last ounce of strength
to believe in your self
give it the last ounce of your strength

if it is beyond your ability
to believe
that you are worthy of success
extend your boundaries

Birth

As Spring brings forth from the soil the flowers, fruits, and vegetation which has, all Winter long, been ruminating inside Mother Earth's womb, so too shall the the art bloom.
It has become time to birth myself into the Earth, many projects are under way as part of this birth, soon to come will be several books with collaborative artistry, videos of poems and events, as well as several live recorded albums as well as studio collaborations with amazing musicians. These physical manifestations of thoughts which have long been ruminating inside of my will then be taken as far across this land as I can take them in order to share the stories which have been given to me to share for stories are best shared. It is my hope that in sharing them they will help to bring light and healing to others as they have brought light and healing to me.
